Week 9: Design Thinking

Banny Banerjee’s talk was by far my favorite. It was a bit embarrassing that at the end of his talk no one was ready to ask a question and he even stated that he thought he had bored us. But I disagree completely! Time was probably the main factor of our silence but I believe that this lecture was the most inspiring and impacting of all.

Banerjee spoke of the need of design thinking. The idea of solving problems from a design perspective, where design is the solution and can be applied to address sustainability and development issues. He discussed how one’s way of thinking must be altered in order for one to see solutions form say materials that would not be considered in traditional solutions of such problem. He also discussed how one must make sure that the problem that is being address is the problem that needs solving. He stated this clearly by showing the difference between “doing the right thing” and “doing things right”.
